On the 7th February six of our Otters travelled to Milton Road in Swindon for the Wiltshire ASA Championship Sprints. For those of you that do not know the pool, it is an old Victorian pool, which has an unusual length of 33.7yards. Many teams from all over Wiltshire were there, including high oppositions from Swindon Dolphin, Trowbridge, Salisbury and other good teams. All six competitors competed in all four stokes, making it a busy day for us all. The Otters went in on a great start in the morning session, with Sidney Fenwick picking up a Silver for the Backstroke and Silver for the Fly in the 9yrs age group. Rory Burton also medalling in the Fly, again with a successful Bronze in the 13yrs age group. Jenny Wiltshire was also amongst the medals in the first session picking up and Bronze in the 13yrs Breaststroke. After a well earned lunch break the Otters were back on the pool to finish their events. Jenny Wiltshire was the first to medal in the second session, winning a Bronze in the 13yrs Backstroke. Sidney Fenwick gained another two medals in the second session, making him medal in every event! He picked up Silver for the Breaststroke and a Bronze for the Freestyle. Well done to George Fenwick, Will Turner and Eloise Toomer for placing themselves in the top ten in their age groups in every event! Well done to all the Otters for qualifying and attending the sprints, we will hope to see more swimmers there next year!

On the Weekend of 24th & 25th October, four Durrington Otters attended the Avalon Open Meet at Millfield School’s 50m Pool in Somerset.

Day 2 and Eloise & Jenny were joined by fellow swimmers George & Sidney Fenwick. George Fenwick 12yrs started the day off in style by gaining a Bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke. This was then followed with both Jenny & Eloise gaining a medal in the 100m Backstroke. Eloise also gained medals in 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke & 50m Butterfly. George going one better than before, gained a Silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke.
Sidney Fenwick 9yrs competing in a mixed age 9/10yrs did not medal, but if he had been competing only in the 9yr age group he would have medalled in all his events.
Durrington Swimmer of the meet goes to George Fenwick for his excellent performances in the Breaststroke.

Two Otters George & Sidney Fenwick attended Tigershark’s Separated Individual Medley Meet on the 19th July. The SIM Meet means swimming all 4 individual strokes at 50m and the fastest 6 go forward to a final of a 100m or 200m Individual Medley depending on age. George although pulling off some fast times was in a tough age group and unfortunately did not medal this time.
Sidney who has just turned 9yrs managed 4 personal best times, 2 medals a Gold in the Breaststroke & Bronze for Butterfly and a place in the 100m IM Final where he finished a very respectable 4th earning himself a trophy.
