Gala News
September 12th saw the final gala of the Moonraker Summer League.
For us it was our Home gala, here at Durrington. With only 11 points separating the first three teams from previous rounds, the competition was wide open which made for a very exciting event.
After the first 10 events, Durrington were trailing by six points, with both Corsham and Swindon ahead, Durrington just in front of Marlborough, despite first place finishes for Will Turner Boys U12 25m Butterfly - Jenny Wiltshire Girls U16 50m Freestyle and Eloise Toomer Girls Open 100m Backstroke.
Event 12 saw the Boys U12 Medley Relay – James Falconer, Matthew Heavens, Sidney Fenwick and Will Turner bring home a win – and further individual wins for James Chapman Boys U14 50m Freestyle - Millie Coker Girls U14 50m Freestyle - Alex Ba-Tin Girls Open 100m Butterfly - Georgia Shepherd Girls U12 25m Breaststroke and Eloise Toomer Girls U16 50m Backstroke took Durrington to within 4 points of Corsham after 22 events.
Next to secure some more home wins were James Chapman & Jenny Wiltshire in the U14’s 50m Freestyle - Laura Fry, Catherine Davis, Jenny Wiltshire & Eloise Toomer Girls U16 Freestyle Relay Team -
Rory Burton & Jenny Wiltshire U14’s 50m Butterfly,
Will Turner & Georgia Shepherd U12’s 25m Backstroke.
In the end, Corsham had the better second half, winning 13 of the 28 events, Durrington pulling in many 2nd & 3rd places.
The final score ending was:
Corsham 152
Durrington 138
Marlborough 114
Swindon 96.
It was a very exciting gala with excellent swims from all clubs involved. Corsham will now move up to Division 4 next summer, and Durrington will remain in Division 5.
