General Items of interest. Sprints 2010 Group Sprints 2010 2

On the 7th February six of our Otters travelled to Milton Road in Swindon for the Wiltshire ASA Championship Sprints.
For those of you that do not know the pool, it is an old Victorian pool, which has an unusual length of 33.7yards.
Many teams from all over Wiltshire were there, including high oppositions from Swindon Dolphin, Trowbridge,
 Salisbury and other good teams.
All six competitors competed in all four stokes, making it a busy day for us all.
The Otters went in on a great start in the morning session, with Sidney Fenwick picking up a Silver for the Backstroke and Silver for the Fly in the 9yrs age group. Rory Burton also medalling in the Fly, again with a successful Bronze in the 13yrs age group.
Jenny Wiltshire was also amongst the medals in the first session picking up and Bronze in the 13yrs Breaststroke.
After a well earned lunch break the Otters were back on the pool to finish their events. Jenny Wiltshire was the first to medal in the second session, winning a Bronze in the 13yrs Backstroke. Sidney Fenwick gained another two medals in the second session, making him medal in every event!
He picked up Silver for the Breaststroke and a Bronze for the Freestyle.
Well done to George Fenwick, Will Turner and Eloise Toomer for placing themselves in the top ten in their age groups in every event!
Well done to all the Otters for qualifying and attending the sprints, we will hope to see more swimmers there next year!

Gala News Round 1 of the Jurassic League took us to Heron ASC’s home pool in Yeovilton.
As the Gala swung into full force, it was obvious, we would have to give it our all.

First to bring in a win was the Boys 10U 25m Front Crawl: Sidney Fenwick, followed by Alex Ba-Tin in the Girls Open 50m Fly.
These were followed by 2nd place finishes by Boys 12U Medley Relay: Will Turner, Matthew Heaven, Sidney Fenwick & James Falconer. Girls 16U 50m Backstroke: Jenny Wiltshire, Boys 10U 25m Breaststroke: James Falconer, Boys 14U 50m Fly: Rory Burton.

By the time the first set of scores were announced, Durrington were not in the running.
But we kept pushing, & next to secure a
1st place finish was Girls 16U 50m
Breaststroke: Eloise Toomer, 2nd place finish for Boys 10U Medley Relay Team: James Falconer, Sam Hall, Sidney Fenwick & Isaac Reed.
The Mixed Open Medley Relay also brought in a 2nd, Eloise Toomer, Matt Chapman, Alex Ba-Tin & Adam Davis, followed by Will Turner Boys 12U 50m Backstroke, & Eloise Toomer Girls 16U 50m Fly.
Things were starting to improve & we were creeping back to the Top 3.

The scores were starting to even out, making it a very exciting gala.

The Girls 14U Front Crawl Relay with Laura Fry, Jenny Wiltshire, Adele Reed & Millie Coker were the next to secure 1st place, followed by Alex Ba-Tin Girls 50m Open Freestyle,
Amelia Rogers & Sidney Fenwick took in a double win with Boys/Girls 10U 25m Butterfly.
Girls/Boys 16U 50m Front Crawl,
Jenny Wiltshire & Roy Goodenough also found themselves in 1st place.
There was another 2nd for 16U Front Crawl Relay Team: Rory Burton, Peter Chapman, Roy Goodenough & Kieran Bramwell.

On the night there were many 3rds, those securing those were, Jess Hall, Matt Chapman, Peter Chapman, Adele Reed, George Fenwick,
Tyra Wilson Harris, James Falconer, Eloise Toomer, Boys 14U Medley Relay, Zac Hall, George Fenwick, Rory Burton & James
Chapman. Girls 10U Medley Relay Team, Sarah Falconer, Jess Hall, Amelia Rogers & Hannah Cox.
All the 4th & 5ths matter to, as all the points make the score, so keep with it guys.
At the end of the Gala we had managed 3rd place finish with Bridport & Heron Teams ahead, but the scores were close, making R2 an exciting prospect.
Well done guys you swam well, great team spirit as always.

Our warmest wishes go to Emily Johnstone who unfortunately, slipped whilst changing and broke her arm in 2 places!
Emily now has a groovy pink cast.
